EMDR is an evidence-based approach that’s recommended by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) and the World Health Organisation (WHO)—particularly for treating Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). However, EMDR has also proven helpful for those managing anxiety, depression, phobias, complicated grief, and more.

What is EMDR Therapy?

I provide Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) as part of my therapeutic toolkit to help individuals heal from distressing or traumatic life experiences. EMDR is an evidence-based approach that’s recommended by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) and the World Health Organization (WHO)—particularly for treating Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). However, EMDR has also proven helpful for those managing anxiety, depression, phobias, complicated grief, and more.

How EMDR Helps You Heal

When trauma occurs, it can overwhelm the brain’s natural ability to process information. This can leave painful memories feeling “stuck,” continuing to cause distress, nightmares, flashbacks and anxiety long after the event.

EMDR helps reprocess these experiences so that they become less emotionally charged and easier to live with.

In therapy, I’ll guide you to revisit these memories while using bilateral stimulation—such as eye movements, tapping, or sounds—which is thought to mirror the brain’s natural healing processes, similar to what happens during REM sleep.

Many people describe feeling lighter and more grounded after EMDR, as if their story has shifted in a way that makes space for new growth.

What You Can Expect

EMDR follows a structured eight-phase model. We’ll move through these together, at a pace that feels safe and manageable:

  • Getting to know your story and shaping a personalised treatment plan
  • Building coping strategies and emotional regulation techniques
  • Identifying memories to target
  • Desensitising those memories with bilateral stimulation
  • Strengthening new, positive beliefs
  • Scanning the body for residual tension
  • Closing each session with grounding and support
  • Checking in over time to monitor progress

I’ll always ensure you feel safe and emotionally prepared before we work on difficult material. EMDR is collaborative, and your readiness guides each step.

Who I Work With

I offer EMDR therapy to adults (including neurodivergent clients) and have used it successfully with people facing:

  • Single-incident traumas, like accidents or assaults
  • Long-term, developmental trauma and complex trauma
  • Low self-worth and identity-related challenges

Evidence-Based and Widely Endorsed

EMDR is supported by:

  • NICE Guidelines NG116: Recognised as a first-line trauma-focused intervention for PTSD in adults
    NICE Guidance
  • WHO Mental Health GAP: Recommended for PTSD treatment in humanitarian and clinical settings
    WHO Guidance

Ready to take the next step on your journey to healing.
